Final Fantasy XII - invisible loot drops
#21
Let's hope they get there soon, because I'm totally thinking of installing a linux distro on the new G3258 rig I'm building next week to replace my old HTPC.

Your rig will be fine. But pleassssse go with Nvidia. Nvidia proprietary drivers erased almost all my problems.
OS: Linux Mint 17.2 64 bit (occasional Antergos/Arch user)
(I am no longer a Windows user)
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258
GPU: Nvidia GTX 650 Ti

I'm going with the G3258's IGP for now but thanks for the heads up. Smile

If I ever build a new rig in the future I will definitely go with an Nvidia card, unless AMD decide to put more effort into their linux drivers.

I've managed to get GSdx working in hardware rendering mode (loot drops are now showing and it doesn't appear to be crashing) but I'm getting annoying FPS drops. Any advice?

edit: oh and I forgot to mention: I got this working by using an older BIOS version

An older BIOS? That seems like quite the random workaround lol. What resolution are you running at? What about AA? Do you have it turned on? FFXII can be GPU-intensive during Quickenings I hear.

My screen resolution is 1920x1080 but I often run pcsx2 in a small window.

I can't find any AA settings on GSdx. Graphics look good so I assume they are turned on, probably max'd out as well.

I haven't used any quickenings yet because I am quite early in the game.

Oh sorry I meant what resolution is PCSX2 running at. Check the GSdx settings, it should tell you either 'Native' or some multiplier there of most likely. AA can be found if you press on the 'Configure' button next to 'Enable HW Hacks'.

Native is unticked and scaling is 2x.

I don't see any configure button or 'enable hw hacks' box in GSdx settings.

Hm...strange. Maybe the linux version doesn't support AA? BTW try playing in native (it's gonna look crummy but it should help your framerate). So your window doesn't have all these options?
