First time user, sorry if this is a stupid question

Hi just got this set up using Simply Austin's great and lengthy tutorial on YouTube, so far things work really well, i have an I7 5820, GTX 970 G1 and 32 GB of RAM, frame rates arent an issue lol.
However, some games have screwed up textures if i use hardware mode, but switching to software mode usually fixes this problem but obviously it doesn't look as good.
What i want to know is, is that normal, or have i done something wrong?
Like i said if i start a game and its textures are all screwed up or there are severe graphical artefacts hitting F9 to switch to software mode usually clears things up i just want to know if thats normal or if i have missed something.

Thanks.
