Frequent Performance Drops on PCSX2 (Mac Mini M4)
#1
Hey everyone,

I’m using PCSX2 on a Mac Mini M4, running macOS Sequoia, and playing From Russia with Love. I’m getting random performance drops pretty often. The game suddenly slows down for a moment, then goes back to normal, and this keeps happening. I didn’t seem to notice a pattern at first, but I think it happens whenever there are smoke effects in the game.

Anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Thanks!

probably gpu limited on a mac mini
better check

Please post a screenshot of the performance counters in the PCSX2 On Screen Display (OSD).

Where do I enable the counters?
Settings > Graphics > OSD

What boxes do I tick?
For best results, please tick all the boxes. This will add a lot of things to the screen, but you can turn them back off once we are done looking at the performance statistics.

Where do I take a screenshot?
Go to the part of the game where you are experiencing slowness/FPS drops, then take a screenshot with the counters on screen.

If the FPS loss is extremely short and hard to capture in a screenshot, record a short video instead. Windows users can record easily with Win + Shift + R. Mac users can record easily with Command + Shift + 5.
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Here’s the screenshot during the slowdown:

Let me know if you spot anything off. Thanks!

gpu is having a hard time.
try decreasing internal resolution to 2x or even native

Here’s the normal performance. Could it be VRAM?

I tried lowering the internal resolution to native, but the issue is still there. Here’s the screenshot--
