GPU upgrade r9 280 or r9 285

2% is nothing, just saying, the 2 cards are ALMOST as powerfull, dépending of wich game they tested my one will be better than the other.
The 280 got more vram and a bigger bus, so she can be the best on the biggest games, while the 285 will be better on mantle games (do we care ?).. but the 2 are still mid-range cards so don't expect to play to FC4 in full ultra.

Far Cry 4 gets 54fps on ultra @ 1920 x 1200

Just no, I can tell you in full ultra without the maximum AA you got 55/60 fps with a gtx 980.. and the game runs better on nvidia.
When FC3 came out, I had a 7970ghz (its a 280x), and it was hard to maintain 60 fps in ultra, so FC4..
Too many sites are so full of crap...

You sure your system wasn't just being bogged down by something? Or that it was just CPU limited?

Yes im sure..
I try to explain you everything, believe me, I had almost all the gpu and it tested many many pieces of hardware, im not a noob.

Is this site too?

The 285 has twice as many geometry processors, but I don't know how helpful that really is. The difference only seems to show up at really high tessellation factors.

The 280 on the other hand has 50% more memory and 50% more memory bandwidth. I'm sure it can match the 285's clock speeds no problem.

The 285 added DCC (Delta Color Compression) which gave a significant mem. bandwidth boost. The 285 was also a newer iteration of GCN (unofficially dubbed GCN 1.2) which brought forth an improved tessellation engine for better tessellation performance in games that support/utilize it.

That being said, both are great performers for the $ and I'd say just go with whichever one you can find cheapest.

bandwidth is rather important fact for pcsx2 last i checked special when u start adding effect shaders AA and use high multiples of native res

How is memory bandwidth important for pcsx2 ? How did you check it ?

Its important when you want the higher res.
