zzogl is kind of deprecated. You can't have better with your PC (at least not on linux).

I'm having similar problem in my newly installed Elementary OS 64 bits.
Installed stable pcsx2 v 1.4.0 via Gregory's ppa. I have manually installed AMD Catalyst drivers for x64. Now on trying to boot pcsx2 throws : libGL Error, No matching fbConfigs or visuals found And failed to load driver: swrast
Through some digging I found this might be due to missing 32 bit gl libraries as 64 bit openGL test like glxgears and GpuTest run fine. I new to linux , someone please help to solve this issue.

Should I manually download and install the 32 bit driver from AMD.

I don't know how it works for AMD. On nvidia, you need to select 32 bits compatibility during install. Or maybe a mesa upgrade broke your amd installation. Try to search on google.

Best way to install the Catalyst driver with Ubuntu based distro is to use the repository. Or else you risk a broken X server due to missing the aticonfig command.

Repository had an older driver But installing it solved the issue. Thanks a lot.
Seems the repository is the best option for AMD cards using a 64 bit distro.
