GT4 - image bobbling and blur
#1
Hi All first post,

Tried every combination of dx9 and dx10 bob weaving/merging/saw/tooth etc etc - but can't stop the image wobbling till blurred.

Now that isn't exactly true - while (that's while, not when) I choose the 480p option when the text pops up to ask me if this is OK the image is rock solid and looks fantastic. I can leave it there and it stays rock solid, but, as soon as I click OK and select 480p and the text goes off & it's blurry cack once more?

Obviously I have changed brightness to 0

Plus seems to be giving false numbers, while the race starts it's reporting running at above 100% and seems much slower?

Game is running nowhere near full speed even at native res with alomst every speed hack active - is this normal? Quite a few people seem to have reported much greater speed (on you tube at least) than I am managing with setups that are much less capable than mine.

My System is

e5200 overclocked to 3.333ghz
ddr2 overclocked to 889 mhz
ati 4770 overclocked to 900mhzgpu 1000mhzmem (cat 9.5)
Vista 64bit with SP1 and all updates

All help greatly accepted.

Yeah played it on PS2 many moons ago - it isn't performing on my PC as well as it did on the PS2.

Which is strange as Shadow of Colossus is running like a charm - which I thought was the hardest game to get running smoothly - seems I may be mistaken?

better graphics doesnt always mean slower emulation. Badly coded games with bad graphics can run slower than well coded games with good graphics. for example the need for speed games, they run at only a few fps in comparison to say Metal Gear Solid 3 or even Shadow of Colossus, which run much much faster.

When I compare game speed of GT4 on PS2 and PCSX2 it looks like i have to set frame limit to 45-50 to make game speed same. When it runs at 60fps it is much faster then on PS2 and unplayable.

OK just about answered my own question and thought I would share my findings so far to help others.

1) Bobbling image is due to 480p only being used for racing/stroke replays so menu's stay fuzzy - racings fine.

2) While my CPU is at 3.333ghz and ddr2 800 mem running at 889mhz my FSB was at 1066mhz.

Solution - Changed that to 1333mhz keeping everything else the same which seems to have given a large speed boost - i.e. the FSB is a massive bottleneck - crank yours as high as you can for a large speed gain in this emu.

3) For the limiter (second option) - if I set it to 60 and let the emu do the rest all sorts of strange numbers appear - i.e. states emu is running at 180% when clearly it is running far below optimal speed.

Solution - set frame rate to unlimited BUT turn on Vsync on a monitor refresh of 60Hz - gives a speed boost and non tearing image.

I have every speed hack activated which seems to run fine - however on Ford Escort Rally car tire and rim isn't meshing properly allowing the alloy texture to be viewed entirely - where as it should intersect the tire - results in hexagonal style shape to rim.

Also running in d10 with GSDx 1322.
