GT4 on i7-920
#1
Hi Folks,

Really struggling to get GT4 working well. Summary:

Massive slowdown at start of race and medium slowdown at car customisation.

Race mainly OK, but period very brief drops in framerate (20%), interrupting gameplay and audio (stutter)

System specs:
Intel Core i7 920 - 4GHz (OC'd)
Gigabyte EX58-DS4
Corsair 1333 DDR3 - 6GB (@570MHz - 6 Multiplier)
NVidia GeForce 9600GT
Corsair 500W PSU

This system should be able to run this, right???

Video of settings and problem:

What I've tried:
Running in native - exactly same problems
GP mode to software: runs better framerate - limited drops - however - wanting the HD!
Changing speedhacks - very limited impact on the probs

Do the devs come on here? Would really love to get this emulator running smooth in my arcade cab.

Other games work well (aside from burnout 3 - similar probs)

Any help would be appreciated. Smile

Considering that in software mode works better, and considering the spec of your PC, I think that your GPU is struggling and if you want to play in HD you'll have to but something better, anyway try to look at the top of the window, if the percentage of EE, GS, or VU reaches 100% it means that you're CPU limited (but I don't think an i7-920 4GHz is limiting GT4 so bad...), otherwise is probably the GPU (you can monitor it with GPU-Z to see if it works at 100%).

It's definitely the 9600GT, pretty dated, and GT4 is pretty intense for emulation. If you really want to try to make it work without upgrading, try OCing your graphics card but go gentle on it, small rises in frequencies and as soon as you see artifacts, lower the last frequency you increased. Good luck!

Cheers chaps. Looking at issues - does seem to be the gcard. Figures on top of pcsx2 windows all below 100%. HOwever, GPU load maxing out around 100%. Shame really, cos bought this specifically for pcsx2, as per recc here:

Should have gone more powerful I suppose. Can anyone recommend a gcard that'll play all ps2 games without too much fuss?

Thanks

For a new graphic card it depends on how much you want to spend. If it's mainly for PCSX2 maybe a Radeon 7770 or a Geforce 650, should cost around 100€ and should be able to handle most games at 3x or 4x native resolution. Anyway nowadays almost all the new descrete graphic cards are better than the 9600 (maybe not a Geforce 610 or 620...).

Thanks fellas - yer stars!!

Replaced with GTX 660 - everything runs like coclkwork - and ohhh... how good is it to see GT4 running at 1900x1200!?

I wonder weather the "reccommended specs" post ref'd above should be updated - I bought the last gcard from this where it says it'd run games fine (albeit with caveat of "most"). I realize maybe at native - but some additional info regarding if want to upscale - reccs of other gcards...

Just don't want others to fork out like I did. Don't matter though - that's now in my next arcade cab Smile
