GTAVCS particle lag
#1
The game runs great at 60 Hz and I can even turbo it to 200. The problem comes with particle effects. Whenever there are some, the fps tank to less than 30. A simple exhaust of a car makes it unplayable.

Im using 1.7.2 on balanced. Tried agressive CRC, and even tried native resolution, but the fps wont get above 40 when there is smoke.

I tried touching almost all settings, but i dont know what im doing. Im using vulkan, but happens with opengl too. Tried skipdraw in 1, 10, 20, 100 and 10000, just for the sake of trying, but nothing.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks you

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

This log is from loading a save state directly into a car with smoke and getting the lag. The strange thing is that nor CPU nor the GPU are at full usage.

i think you actually get the ame kind of slowdows on real hardware.
lcs and vcs are ***** ports

So I have been touching pretty much everything. For some reason it lagged less in the 1.6.0 version... Even copying all settings. I the lag reduced a lot by tunning both EE hacks to 1. The strange thing is that now when it happens the frames dont drop, but the game slows down about 30%.

In any case, it also wasnt the particles. Its a street that if you watch in the distance makes it slow down. And its not a distance thing either I think.

not surprising. 1.7 is more accurate

try the same parts on real hardware. i think it's laggy too.
i think enabling 8 bit textures helps kinda

I left the game a couple of weeks, then restarted it from 0. I also downloaded the latest nightly build and for some reason there isnt any slow down. The two areas where the game went to crawl, gone. Fully 30 fps.
idk what happened, I didnt touch any config. Maybe it was something new in the nightly builds? Back then, I even tested starting a new game and going directly to those areas, and they lagged with a brand new save.

It runs so good that I even increased the load by selecting anti aliasing and texture filtering and having all CRC hacks in auto (I had them in aggressive) and the game runs flawlessly.
