Game Stopped Reading Memory Card
#1
I've been playing "Sly Cooper: Band of Thieves" recently, and during the third world of the game, I got an in-game message saying that the Memory Card had been unplugged, and that until I re-inserted it, I would be unable to save in-game. While I can always just use save-states, I would really prefer to have the in-game save as a backup, in case I do something stupid and manage to save the game in a horrible position.

I checked Google, and the only advice I could find was to make sure that nothing was set to "read-only". I did so, and re-loaded my game. I loaded my latest save-state, since I had kept playing for a little bit after that message, and the game still can't find the Memory Card.

Is there a way to get the emulator to "re-insert" the Memory Card file while the game is still running? I'm asking about doing it mid-game just in case the issue is due to the game loading from a save-state and thus re-loading in a state of not having the Memory Card available. (Although if that isn't a possible issue, then just figuring out how to reactivate the Memory Card file is fine.)

EDIT: Oh yeah, just in case it helps any, I'm using "v1.5.0 dev-2243-g74282b46f". If I need to update the emulator or just use a different version, then I'd like to know how to keep my save-file between emulator versions. Can I just copy/paste the whole "memcard" folder?

I guess the way to eject and reinsert would be while the game is running go to Config->Memcards, then eject it, return to the game, then go back to the memcards screen and put it back in again.

Just tried it. Doesn't seem to have worked. In-game, the pause menu would say "Save and Quit Game" normally, but without the Memory Card available, it just says "Quit Game". There was no change to the pause menu, and no in-game message saying that the Memory Card was found.

EDIT: Okay, I double-checked the game by quitting back to the title screen and reloading my saved game. It took me back to the second world, losing hours of progress, but was able to find the Memory Card when I looked in the pause menu again. Loading my save-state in this condition caused the emulator to crash. Restarting the emulator and loading my save-state took me back to the third world where I stopped playing last, just like it was supposed to, but the Memory Card could not be found.

So to recap, if I load the game normally, the Memory Card is able to be read, but I lose multiple hours of progress in the game. If I load my save-state, I keep my progress, but the Memory Card cannot be found by the game.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

I tried replicating the crash to make sure that it would be recorded in the log (since I had continued messing with it after the crash), but it loaded the save-state just fine. Still recognized the Memory Card when loading the in-game save, but no Memory Card when loading the save-state.

The log indicates that you're not using 1.5.0 dev. I would redownload the latest dev build; make sure the files actually get replaced and then check your file/plugin paths first.

Sorry, wrong log file. I have a handful of different versions of the emulator, since some of these games don't always play nice and the first thing I try is using a newer emulator version. Here's the correct file.

Does it still not work if you don't use save states? They can mess up memory card access

Like I said, if I don't load my save-state, it recognizes the Memory Card and loads correctly. If I do load my save-state, the Memory Card isn't recognized, and the only way I'll be able to save the game is by continuing to use save-states.

The reason that I'd like to fix the Memory Card in my save-state is because if I don't, I'm stuck near the beginning of the world I had already finished, and lose hours of progress. I'm a college student, and don't always have time to play the game for long stretches of time, and I'd lose on what took me a week to do.

Check your Memory Card settings and make sure the following is enabled:
Having this disabled can cause all sorts of madness when you use save states and then try to save. Note that changes to this setting (from what I have seen) may require a full restart of PCSX2 itself to apply. If this is already enabled, then I'm not sure what else there is to try. If the game is simply saying no memory card is inserted, as a last resort you can try manually ejecting and reinserting the card. Another option would be to create a brand new card, format it, and try saving to that. Then copy the save over to your current card in the PS2 BIOS.
