Games Crashing Before I can Select Mem Card

So im new to emulating, Lets start with that, Ive had an urge to play Dark alliance  1 & 2. However when I try to load the game with my discs it starts but freezes on the memory card selection screen. Ive tried adjusting all the video plugin settings and running my 3 different PS2 bioses (i have 2 slim ps2 and one fat). Ive attempted clearing/formatting memory cards but im 99% sure that the game is just freezing. Ive even ordered another copy of BGA. Any advice?
