Games run slow in some sections

I don't know if it is a specification thing or not, here are the specifications by the way:
NOTE: It is a laptop but I keep it plugged in while gaming (MSI GE62, if the model helps)
Core i7 6700HQ 2.6 GHz
GTX 1060 3GB
8GB RAM
Windows 10 64bit

I'm currently trying to play Devil May Cry 3 and some sections of the game completely slow down. I sometimes switch between the software and hardware renderer of DX and OpenGL and the hardware modes run it slightly better but it makes a lot of the stuff on screen invisible like the style meter, weapon selection, pause menu options etc.

Well , your laptop's frequency is quite low , 2.6 ghz is the culprit here , tho , about the invisible glitch , you should try playing on software mode.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

I have the 17inch version of that laptop and DMC3 works just fine.
Possible problems are:
1.PCSX2 is not actually using your nvidia card(you can see what is used in the pcsx2 console window or if the blue\red light on your power button is red)
2.You are using 1.4.0 and probably the game don't work very well there
3.You are playing on battery and windows is triggering some power saving feature(there is no need to change the power plan to anything other than balanced while the laptop is plugged in)

And btw 2.6 is the base speed,it can go up to 3.5 but only on one of the cores,usually it's up to 3.2ghz on all cores

If I remember correctly,there was some GSdx option(enabled by default)that makes the game really slow in certain places but that was because of a bug which is probably fixed on the latest beta

The the max speed shown is for one or two cores,turbo don't actually gives you that max speed on all cores(even on desktop cpus)

And btw MSI GE62\GE72 is a gaming laptop(little old but it still is...I already cleared few PS3 games at full speed and I lock the cpu clock at 2.6Ghz because I don't like the heat and the noise I get for the barely notable speed boost))

lol , i was in a delusion that turbo boost can Go turbo on all cores ,It sounds more like a marketing strategy from intel . Like , they just promote the stuff. And didn't mention the actual scenario of all cores .

having done this before... go to your power options and change your high-power GPU to the dedicated card, and then, obviously set your laptop to max performance

I've been mulling over OC, but, I know the risks involved. I don't know if PCSX2 forums is the place to ask but since I am making this laptop my primary emulation machine and PS2 is the main system I need on here, how much higher do I need to go from 2.6? And, if possible, tell me the safe limit for this particular laptop, I live in a warm environment if that causes me problems down the line.

Well, I do keep my laptop plugged in while gaming, I do know how laptops work with power saving, immediately switching to the Intel integrated graphics when you run anything off the battery. And I checked the GPU being used several times, it is my 1060. I guess you're right, I'll have to deal with the slowdowns. Thanks for the info. I'll refrain from OC even though it's tempting.
