I am not sure what generic bluetooth controler you are using, but if it is like my gamestop red samurai 2 or my nes30pro then odds are it has multiple modes, generally a keyboard mode and a gamepad mode, sometimes others depending on how it was designed.

Check your manual or the internet if you can't find the manual just incase you can easily switch to gamepad mode. Keyboard mode was made as a mode of last reaort to connect to devices that gamepad mode didn't work on and to allow for multiplayer at the expense of the 2nd player controller's abilities.
