Getting an idea of what works

Hey, I havent replaced my pc in quite a while, I'm about to. Trying not to drop too much money on it though, but I'm just wanting to have a decent second option to play ps2 games unless my ps2 dies. Hopefully wanting to play Shinobi at full speed on a pc, which I think is possible with the right specs.

Intel core i5-2500K, LGA 1155, 3.3GHz, Quad-core, Intel HD graphics 3000

4G of ram

VGA card is Radeon HD 6450 1024MB w/ direct x11 support

windows 7, 64bit.. 64 bit or 32 bit make a difference?

This stuff sound about right? Sorry to ask you guys this, I posted in the original sticky topic about specs but i wasn't sure how outdated it was. Didnt want to risk it so I figured I'd go ahead and make a topic before actually spending money on something. I appreciate the help.

No reason at all to have a 32 bits OS unless if is to run on a very old 32 bits CPU or at an enterprise with tons of native 16/32 bits applications, legate of Windows 95 times.

PS: Still, you should seriously considerate going for a better GPU, soon enough you'll find that just threw out money in that one if going to play games.

Thanks for the reply. Well given your advice, would you guys just post what it is i'm looking for, if the recommended specs thread is outdated? As far as a GPU and a graphics card, what is it I need that would run a fast game like (ps2)Shinobi full speed, that wouldn't be terribly expensive? if that exists. I thought the stuff I posted was part of the recommended specs section of the original thread, like I said, wasn't sure how outdated it was. Appreciate the help.

I think it would be easier if you gave us a budget for the card, as a lot of better cards worth, there is no definite line, however we say generally the mid range to top of the range of the last few series of radeons and geforce cards should be fine.

PS2 games aren't themselves highly demanding on graphics card, still you'll need a good card to get the niceties of upscaling and that much important also, to play PC games.

The video card in the OP is not a great enough gain over the IGP, for what it can run well the Intel one would be almost equal (despite the obvious advantage of the native VRAM on the discrete card).

My advice is getting a real mainstream+ card. Something like a 6670 minimal on AMD. The second digit there is important and should be the greater possible you can afford, the 3rth digit indicates the card class, it should be the biggest affordable in your budget also.

AMD has a complex combination I can't tell much really and dare not to suggest or recommend models for pure lack of knowledge.

Someone may come with specifics on that area, keep an eye on the thread.

I was just looking at this site: http://www.googlebb.magicmicro.com/

I would like to spend around 700 ish tops on just a pc, no monitor or anything else. Is it possible to get a pc that will run pcsx 2 basically as fast as it can for that amount? Does this site look legit to you guys, and if I were to buy a premade PC from here, what is it that I'm looking for? hope this isn't too much trouble. Alot of the premade builds seem to start at like 300-400ish under "desktop computer systems". Thanks for your help, sorry Ive not responded sooner, been busy with stuff.

$700 is definitely enough for an Intel i5 with > 3.2Ghz turbo and a decent GPU.

That one looks okay Smile

Yea, definitely go for a dedicated GPU. You can compare some of the available options on this site:

The CPU is very fast and should last you for like the next 5 years.

IMO i would go with the new i5- 3570k its only about $10 than the 2500k and its ivy bridge might as well get the latest tech for the same price. I paired mine up with an msi 660ti power edition and its screams.
