Glitch in Super Robot Wars Original Generations
#1
Hi!

Recently Super Robot Wars OGs has been trnaslated. I wanted to play this ggame for a long time in english with non GBA graphcis. The only thing that bugs me is the background glitches shown in the picture I attached. Is there anyway to get rid of them?

I have tried software rendeing, native resolution, hacks but nothing seems to affect them.

But maybe there is some combination that I haven't tried yet.

Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately I deleted  the original ISO once I saw the game worked. You see it's a pretty long while unti you get to see the combat screen, and everything esle runs and looks, I dare say, Perfect. There are a couple of lines out of place here and there (like in the FMVs) but this is the only thing that's annoying.

I'll see if I can get the original unmodified ISO again

So I've figured out that I still had the original ISO in the trash. Loaded it up and yeah, same issue without the translation patch.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):
[code]

He may not check for some time, tis Christmas after all. I encounter the same thing. Here is my log. I also attached the log in case anyone wants to use that instead. I mean, the game is playable and I encounter no speed issues or sound issues but it is distracting with that background. lol

Hey. I've played this game extensively and tested **many** different configs, and therefore felt like contributing info for both the original poster plus everybody else wondering about the background artifacts who may stumble upon this thread. I don't regular in here forums BUT the release of aforementioned translation was a pretty big deal in the fanmodding circles and therefore I anticipated a post like this here.

All the 3D models in the map view and text really benefit from a bumped up internal resolution in Super Robot Wars OGs. But this comes with a downside of upscaling lines appearing between texture stripes that normally would stay hidden in native internal res. Furthermore, if you set Texture filtering to 'Bilinear (forced)' this graphical glitch becomes even more apparent. Trust me, better just leave it as 'Bilinear (PS2).

There was just no way the devs could've anticipated their technique of how they laid backgrounds sprites in battle scenes backfiring over a decade later in emulators. And the graphics + audio really are a solid bump from the same studio's previous PS2 title called "SRW Alpha 3" which sadly won't get an English translation anytime soon. It's understandable that the assets were created with the available hardware in mind and it's fine to let the low resolution output (from our perspective) mask any imperfections.

Fortunately, there are ways to both enjoy high internal resolution AND alleviate the gfx glitches to a degree. For this game in particular, raising the resolution all the way up to '8x Native' and enabling Paint Shading in the GSdx_FX_Settings.ini config file (bundled with the emulator) helps soften the image *just* enough to get rid of most pesky lines. Note, that enabling both of those is tremendously taxing on the GPU, not so much on the processor. There's an unrelated yet a frustrating issue nonetheless of full motion videos and loading screens having a thick horizontal line in the middle when running above native res, but enabling 'Round Sprite' under GSDX plugin upscaling hacks corrects this. But now you sometimes get glitching mech hitpoints bars instead. In other words, it's a matter of picking the lesser of two evils. BTW, I'm running the latest build of PCSX2 1.7.0 at the time of typing this. Maybe we'll get an elegant patch addressing this in the future.

Here's what I've found an acceptable settings in the .ini. Go any higher and you start losing too much finer details. Go lower and you have ugly upscaling artifacts again.

#define PaintMethod 2
#define PaintRadius 5
#define PaintStrength 1.00

Home key toggles the external shader on/off. Note that you will get a super blurry picture below 8x native resolution as I mentioned before. A strong GPU is required to play this at 100%. Also, if you really want to go an extra mile...do download and setup Reshade to enhance your experience further. I prefer their CRT shaders, debanding, sharpening etc. techniques that are more powerful than the kit that comes bundled with pcsx2 and I think they compliment well games from this era. I took the following screenshots from the untranslated SRW OGs with my favorite graphics settings enabled. As always with CRT scanlines, screenshots containing those look wonky and wrong, if trying to view in non-integer zoom factor, like 1.99x for example.

If you have any questions about the game, reshade or whatever, I probably won't be able to respond.
