Then yeah, your cpu wasn't new enough to support the Advanced Vector Extensions(AVX).

Anything Sandy Bridge or newer should actually support AVX.

Edit: didn't see this thread has 2 pages. But yeah don't expect too much from a laptop, even if the cpu has a fancy name like i7.
They should really change that name by the way.. confuses a lot of people. i7 desktop is so different from i7 laptop.
