Gran Turismo 3: Freezing on each number of the countdown?

Hey all,

So pretty much what the title says, when I'm starting a race or a license test, The emulator freezes for a couple seconds right before it shows each number of the countdown. Here's the settings I've got:

PCSX2:
EE/IOP
EmotionEngine: REcompiler
IOP: Recompiler
Round Mode: Chop/Zero
Clamping Mode: Normal

VUs
VU0: microVU Recompiler
VU1: microVU Recompiler
Round Mode: Chop/Zero
Clamping Mode: Normal

Frame Skipping Disabled
Framelimiting Enabled

16:9 Aspect Ratio

Speedhacks Enabled:
EE Cyclerate: 0
VU Cycle Stealing: 0
INTC Spin Detection
Wait Loop Detection
mVU Flag HAck
MTVU

No Game Fixes Enabled

*note: These are pretty much the settings I use for GT4, so I'm guessing there's something in here that needs to be changed for GT3
