Gran Turismo 4 hanging
#1
Right, you people must be sick to death with these sorts of threads, but I've gotten myself a seemingly impossible to fix issue, so as a last resort I turn to you guys. Cluttering up the forum is the last thing I want to do, honest. Wink

I've tried to run PAL GT4 on 1.0.0 and 1.2.1 but invariably encounter a black screen just after the opening disclaimer. Nothing seems to be ticking in the console so we can determine it a hang, ruling out a GS issue. Using either ISO or game disc in Linuz and Gigaherz plugin respectively produces the same result. I've tinkered with emu settings, speedhacks and experimented with manual fixes (including the skip mpeg hack, which was the first thing I tried) to no effect.

The curious thing is that this exact ISO and disc worked great on an old-ish notebook which sadly decided to get intimate with a cup of earl grey.

OS is Windows 8.

Hope you guys can help me out here. Cheers.

that wont work since he mentioned the exact same iso worked on his notebook, and try the recent revs from orphis buildbot.
We're supposed to be working as a team, if we aren't helping and suggesting things to each other, we aren't working as a team.

Tried v1.2.1-644-ga0056f4, wasn't doing it for me. Thanks for suggesting it though.

Surely somebody has a solution?

Mash the shape buttons when you get the black screen.

Was trying with the Start button earlier, shape buttons didn't do anything either. It seems unlikely, but is it possible for the game to just disagree with my hardware? I'd say my 4670k/GTX 770 combo is relatively common though.

No, it's not that. Sometimes the game hangs at that screen and pushing triangle makes it go on though.

Have you tried using the built in ISO reader instead of the plugins?

Sure have. Tried Linuz and the null driver. Console stops ticking on the same line every time.

I mean in the CDVD menu set "ISO" instead of "plugin".

What size is your ISO? I think you may be missing a layer.

First time you run it wait for a minute or so at the black screen. This is a dual layer game and looks like your pc is having problems reading the second layer or may be it's missing.
