Check if you have all dependencies, especially glew, nvidia-cg and sdl. Or maybe you have 64bit ubu? On 64bit linux it won't work without chroot (mot sure, maybe ubuntu is different from my Arch Smile ).

What about dependencies from the main site?

gtk2, opengl, libbz2, libjpeg, glew-dev, libxxf86vm-dev, x11proto-xf86vidmode, automake and autoconf (version >= 1.9) Nvidia Cg-Toolkit, libasound-dev, joystick

EDIT: Try running pcsx2 trough the console and paste output here. Maybe It'll tell us something more.

Yes, you need them all. No exceptions :> What do you mean by 'faster'? If you have ubuntu with gnome, so gtk2 is already installed. Next, if you have graphics drivers installed, you already have opengl Tongue2 just use apt-get (If you want GUI, then use synaptic) to install other dependencies. I'm sure that they all are in repositories.
