the problem is the game just gets to the very first loading screen then reads mem cards then it locks up

The problem? Simply you have a very weak system....MAybe is this one of the cause of malfunctioning ....And the game,run from DVD or .Iso?

The game already works after saiki's input. He has now problems with lags.

i would guess he needs either to buy a new system, overclock a lot the current system or play on his ps2.
