Having trouble getting games to run smoothly
#1
Hey,

So I'm pretty new to PCSX2, but I've been following the official guide here and a few others that I've found around the internet, and I still can't play any games smoothly.

FMV's run fine, and the PS2 bios menu works fine, just when it's in actual gameplay it doesn't run too good.

Performance isn't any better when using Direct3D 9 either.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
GeForce 8600GT 1GB
4GB PC2-6400 RAM
Windows 7 64-bit

My system specs obviously surpass the requirements by quite a bit, so I'm not sure if it'd have anything to do with that.

I'm also using the latest version of GSdx.

Any tips or help you could provide? Thanks!

Also, games that I'm trying are - MGS2, MGS3 and FF XII and Fatal Frame 2.

might want to play with the other options in CPU and advanced. (also speedhacks) will help some more. your GPU is similar to mine (512 here though) so you might benefit from my settings thread some, might want to give it a try

mgs2/3 are two of the most demanding games currently, even with all speed hacks you are probably out of luck. ff12 could run quite good with speed hacking, but it's also some of the more gpu demanding games, don't know if your 8600gt is fast enough for it. no idea about fatal frame 2, though. but try the latest gsdx beta, your r1145 is already 300 revs behind.

Updated it now, still hasn't changed much.

I read somewhere that disabling forced ABS is a good thing, but I can't seem to find it in this build, it's not in the speed hacks option. Has it been moved or removed?

8600gt is good enough for FF12 with native, even at 1024*1024 my hd2600 can get a nice speed.

That option hasnt been in PCSX2 for quite some time, it was there in the PCSX2 0.9.5 betas, there's better speedhacks now

what kind of FPS are you getting when playing?

Like 5fps, it runs at about 40-60%, it's pretty bad. Tried speedhacks but it's not changing!

That looks a like a different problem, do you have all the options enabled in "config > cpu" menu?

wait what do you mean by 5fps and 40-60%?
