[Help] Jerky Motion intermittently - How to fix this?

Hello,

I have tried the PCSX2 emulator with GT4 US and Colin Macrae Rally 3 US and in both games I get on and off problems with the motion. When I drive in those games I at times don't get linear fluid motion, but pulsating jerkiness. The compatibility list shows them to be playable but in this state it is sickening to play. I assume it is an issue on my end. Is there a way I can fix this?

Thx in advance!

A few questions that are important for the helpers:

1.) What exactly do you mean by pulsating jerkiness?
2.) What FPS values does the emulator display while driving?
3.) Do you have any custom cheat patches enabled or changed certain default settings?
4.) Does your PC meet the system requirements for the emulator?
5.) Can you post your emulog's information here?

If you use the current PCSX2 1.7 versions: In the emulator, click on „Tools” and tick „Enable File Logging”. Then the emulator creates a emulog.txt file in the „logs” folder of PCSX2. With PCSX2 1.6.0 and older, this file is automatically located in the „logs” folder of PCSX2. Smile

A few questions that are important for the helpers:

1.) What exactly do you mean by pulsating jerkiness?
When I drive by a bunch of trees for example with steady speed, they pass by in a non linear way. Meaning they come closer not fluently but in a wobbly kind of manner. This happens in a pulsating speed. It is not happening all the time, and the point of the track I am on seems to be random. It does not look like I am missing frames, but the in game motion is just distorted.

2.) What FPS values does the emulator display while driving?
I had percentages on and it was 100% all the time.

3.) Do you have any custom cheat patches enabled or changed certain default settings?
Yes I have modified the settings, such as 3x resolution and widescreen patch for example.

4.) Does your PC meet the system requirements for the emulator?
Yes, easily.

5.) Can you post your emulog's information here?
Okay, I'm going to check for the emulog's infromation and post it soon.

Smile

Thanks!

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I have dumped this BIOS as well as a BIOS from another PS2 that is scph39001. Is that sufficient? I already had the scph39001 bios in the folder and it shows up in the list of the emulator. How can I make sure that the emulator uses this one? I will try to remove the bios from my japanese PS2. However, will I still be able to play my japanese titles when I remove that one?

Go to "Settings -> BIOS" then pick your just dumped BIOS.
You can still play your JP games (with or without full boot), but PAL games must be run without full boot.

Thanks, now I don't use the wrong Bios anymore.

Unfortunatly it did not resolve the issue. The motion is not smooth at all still.

The emulator displays game FPS and video FPS. Both values are constant at 60? Try activating the „Force Blit Internal FPS Detection” option in the per game settings under „Game Fixes” to see if a value changes. If so, try selecting a higher value for „EE Cycle Rate” under „Emulation”. Speed hacks are also often not ideal for a game, because they will desync the emulation framerate counter from the actual in-game framerate. As in, the emulator will be running at 60 FPS but the emulated game itself might not be running at the full 60 FPS. And another question: Do you have the same problem with your real PlayStation 2?

Using a BIOS file with PCSX2 which you have downloaded from the internet or from a PS2 console you do not own is illegal. You must own the console the BIOS file came from (even if it's broken) to be legal.
