Your graphics card is about the same power as mine. Your CPU is fine as well.

In most games you can set the 3x resolution in the drop down box right above custom resolution.

Extremely demanding games might require you to use 2x. Here is a list of some such games:

Just remember if you get slowdown the first thing to check is turn that resolution back to native.
