I just recently installed PCSX2 from the PPA for Ubuntu 14.04. It seems to play most of the video cutscenes and menus right at 60fps but whenever the actual game starts with all the 3D graphics. It just looks horribly glitchy and totally unplayed. It usually dips down to 20fps or less.
I'm using AMD proprietary drivers.
Host Machine Init:
Operating System = Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64
Physical RAM = 3829 MB
CPU name = Intel® Core i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Vendor/Model = GenuineIntel (stepping 03)
CPU speed = 3.189 ghz (4 logical threads)
x86PType = Standard OEM
x86Flags = bfebfbff 7ffafbff
x86EFlags = 2c100000
The graphics card is HD7790 1GB.
The games I've tried so far are Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Black both in ISO form.

what version of the proprietary drivers are you using? i use the xorg edgers ppa so i dont know the default version. also with every advancement with catalyst there also seems to be a regression. mesa is more stable and accurate but lower performance. what is the terminal output during the errors? also if you could get a nvidia card its like the difference between night and day in pcsx2.

definitely looks like a driver issue. what is the terminal output while the problem is occurring? have you tried software mode with catalyst? mesa driver too?

90% of probability that you force your driver to use anisotropic filtering. Or others bad filtering.
You can also test the gsdx plugin.

Do you have the issue on all games? Try the sw rendrer of gsdx plugin. Be sure to disable all speedhack for now.

For Ubuntu-like systems, use the xorg edgers PPA for gpu drivers.
