1.Launch System Preferences from the Apple menu
2.Choose “Security & Privacy” and then click the “General” tab, followed by clicking the lock icon in the corner to unlock the settings 3.Look for “Allow applications downloaded from:” and choose “Anywhere” 4.Accept the security warning and allow 5.You can now launch any app from any location or developer

The above advice is sound... and actually necessary step to have "anything" running on your system which isn't forced on you from the shop. Of course there is an involved risk whenever freedom is involved... just don't install anything you don't really need or don't click any add promising free lunch and you'll be relatively secure. Just remember that security has many meanings and many vulnerabilities.
