I can't cheat
#1
So I have tried a bunch of pnach files and none work, every time i boot up it says 0 cheats loaded, could it be something to do with my bios settings? This is everything that comes up when i boot my game with cheats enabled.

If someone could help me that would be great and if I posted this in the wrong spot I'm sorry.

This is the one I tried last. I've tried every one on the cheat forum for .Hack//Infection

My only guess would be that the cheat file is in the wrong place. Maybe the emulator looks at a different location than the one you put your cheat in, so check the Paths tab in the BIOS and Plugin Selector menu option.

pnach looks good. I created this guide...take a look. It goes over how to create one but more importantly it covers some of the things you need to do to make a pnach work. Smile

You can just skip to section 2 to ensure you have the right pnach name and location.

I'e attached a screen shot of my paths tab, there is nothing for cheats on it.

Ok now i feel dumb, I've read and watched soo many pnach instructions and they all said to put it in the cheat folder and i did but when i installed pcsx2 it made a folder in my documents with all my bios and stuff in it and a cheat folder so I've been putting them there. I didn't even think to look in program files since every video i watched used the folder in my documents. I moved my pnach file to the program files pcsx2 stuff and it works.

Thank you all for helping me figure out my stupidity. Tongue

When I read the title "I can't cheat", my first thought was "he should see a therapist".

Joking aside, PCSX2 _should_ be able to read from the cheats folder at my document, and if it can't then that's a bug.

I think the main reason is that many people use portable PCSX2, where all the folders ("cheats" included) are at the same folder as pcsx2.exe itself, and I think that not enough people use the installed version of PCSX2 where all the files are at "My Documents".

Is anyone else able to confirm that cheats files are not found if they're put at the cheats folder within my documents when installing PCSX2? (not in portable mode)

on the Installer version, the Cheats folder defaults to the installed directory not the MY documents >> PCSX2 >> cheats directory. so obviously, It would be inaccessible if, it is placed in any other directory than it's Installed one.

The installer is only at 1.2.1 right? It won't read from anywhere else -but- the default location even if you applied a custom one in the .ini files, which is the root pcsx2 directory then.

You or rama (can't remember who it was) fixed this a while ago in one of the 1.3.0 revisions when I reported the fact that pcsx2 won't read a custom folder being applied for the cheats directory.
But even then, the default directory is always the pcsx2 root directory (for the 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 and higher versions that come from the buildbot site). Not a huge issue if you know how to change these default folders in the .ini files.
