Okay... So, I checked both my PAL Slim PS2 and my fat NTSC PS2 in both real life and on the emulator - The US (SCPH39001) BIOS does have "United States of America".
The PAL BIOS sorts through the zones based on it's timezone compared to GMT (as opposed to the NTSC BIOS, which sorts them alphabetically) and USA is listed as "Eastern (USA)", "Central (USA)", "Mountain (USA)", etc.
Edit: Scratch any edit here - I actually mistakenly still had my NTSC BIOS on, like an idiot.
