I need help

Im still trying to fix this problem of mine where the controls keep automatically being chosen when ever I plug in my joy stick. It wasn't like this the first few times I used my joy stick yesterday but now when ever I try to modifie the controllers it keeps put up "Joy (I guess that means joy stick) and then ends with max.

How can I change this?
