For extra rendering threads you have to play a bit. Depends on the HT ability of your cpu.
Just try 2, 3, 4, 5 threads. The optimum should be somewhere within. I guess it is 3.

You only have 4 threads. So there's no point in setting it to 4. It runs on 1 thread by default, so 3 extra threads.
AVX2 is better for Software Mode only I believe, otherwise you won't really get much of a difference from it.

AVX2 is best for software. AVX2 and SSE4.1 are tied for best in hardware(according to my tests, there is a thread around somewhere)

I read somewhere that AVX and AVX2 kick only in in software mode. For hardware mode you have a fallback to sse4.1.... Even if your thread is somehow implying that there is a difference between AVX and SSE4.1 in hardware mode (if I remember correctly)

Hmm. I didn't know that. But then why is SSE4.1 faster than regular AVX in my test? AVX2 and SSE4.1 were almost the same, but regular AVX was slower than both.

I am not sure about these results. But since I don't know how the fall back is implemented if it exists....
I think in one of the revisions where avx was introduced it was said that avx (hardware) == sse4.1(hardware).

AVX is slower than SSE4 Hardware, AVX2 is about the same speed as SSE4 HW.
AVX is about the same for SSE4 SW, while AVX2 is a little bit faster than SSE4 SW
There aren't any 'huge' differences though between them.

Have you made similar experiences as Blyss or are you referring to his (and nobbs) thread?

Similar experiences. For hardware mode I use SSE4 because of that.

why don't you just use AVX2 then.
