Is Action Replay MAX work in PCSX2?

Is action replay MAX work in PCSX2 like the original PS2 ??
(i.e;can I choose a cheat code in the AR MAX disk and then load the game disk to activate the cheat ?
or It only work using the pnatch method?

ARMAX work ONLY with original disks...no images,no backups
