Increasing internal resolution does not rely on RAM but your GPU and CPU. So knowing those and which version of PCSX2 you are running would be more useful also which graphics plugin you are using as well.

Try 2x see if it is still at a reasonable speed. If it is then go to 3x and see if it runs at a reasonable speed and continue like this until it does not run at a reasonable speed.
