Games demos, full client downloads (for online mmorpgs) or patches also come in torrents as it helps with bandwhidth of the sites. Open Office, linux distributions... it's a very used and normal thing nowadays :o

Quote:Plus with the whole seeding and tracking thing I don't want a possibility of anyone trying to locate and find a back door to my computer and screw stuff up.

All people can find is an IP and one port that's open but they cant really know who it is since the torrent swarm consists of several people and well there's not much that can be done with that and like hackers (if that's what you're worried about) dont just choose a random IP and hope they find something good I think xD also well if a hacker wanted to get into your computer there's not much stopping them, basically just by using the internet at all you're expossed :P

edit: oops closed by mistake

Yeah, it never ceases to amaze me how much people think their computer could be the next target of some hacker...

Look, your computer is almost never going to be attacked by a hacker. Anti-virus and firewall applications are pretty much put in place to block automated programs and potentially harmful scripts. If a halfway decent hacker out there wants to get into YOUR personal computer for some reason...they will, plain and simple. However, banks and corporate systems are way more interesting targets, so you probably don't have anything to worry about Tongue

more likely your own family is going to hit you with a hack than someone random. (been trying to hack my brother for a year lol) but all jokes aside, you should be fine. it's not likely that somone will pick you out of random ips, they have "better things to do with their time"

Exactly, big corporate computers with lots of sensitive valuable info? Or random Joe Schmo with a 5k credit limit and some embarrassing porn vids?

I know which one I would go for =P
