how would you characterize the sound using a dvd disc and a cd disc played on the PS2 console compared with a dvd player and a cd player

Besides wearing out the issue prone lens parts (issue on some models of the PS2), there really is no difference in playing a DVD or CD on a physical PS2 vs on a PC or standalone player. I don't know if PCSX2 emulates the media player functionality in the bios, since there never really seemed to be a compelling reason to try it.
