Is nVidia 9500GT a good card?
#21
8400GS has 16 stream processors, 9500GT has 32, 9600 has 64 or 96 I don't remember properly.
The more stream processors you have the better the performance.
The speed also depends on the core and memory clock speed.
So I would suggest you to look up the nvidia "geforce 8 series" and "9 series" in Wikipedia they have a comparison chart of all the graphics card chipsets.

9500GT is a pretty average card.. The performance gives a good jump from 8800GT, 9600GT and forward.

8800GT texture fill rate (billion/sec): 33.6
9600GT texture fill rate (billion/sec): 20.8
9500GT texture fill rate (billion/sec): 8.8

My mobile 9800 GS is heavily based on the desktop 9600 GT, enough so that I believe I can vouch for the 9600 GT being a great GPU (especially for the $100 USD or so that I see them for here). I don't run into many performance problems in terms of PC gaming, and PCSX2 doesn't even come close to utilizing it fully.
ASUS G50Vt-X1
Intel C2D P8400 @ 2.64GHz / 4GB DDR2-800 SDRAM
GeForce 9800M GS 512MB DDR3 @ 617/1550/828 (DOX 182.46)
320GB 7200rpm HDD / 1366x768 15.6" LCD / Vista x64
Crysis@1280x720 MEDIUM: 56.5FPS
3dMark06@1366x768: 10,145

Yea it's 64. 9800GT is 112. Basically if you can overclock the 9800GT a bit you'll see a definite line even when playing/rendering in lower res. It tends to happen that the higher end cards' speeds bottleneck more.

Ok, i'll save up and buy a GeForce 9800GT 512Mb DDR3. So does DDR3 really help for GPU's?

I have the XFX nVidia 9800 GTX and I've been extremely happy with it. I also bought it for about $130. It's superior to the 8800, 128 stream processors, and definitely good enough to emulate FFXII and Kingdom Hearts at full 60 FPS speed (with a powerful enough processor, of course. I have the Q6600 overclocked to 3.2 ghz) You can also use it to play games like Call of Duty: World at War at maxed settings.

Yes, GDDR3 is extremely nice.

I think the GTX cards have more stream processors than the GT, and might have a higher base clock speed.
