Is there any way we can make a move towards greater accuracy

Is there any way we can make a move towards greater accuracy by fixing up the root cause of issues on games instead of relying on hacks per game basis? This would make the emulator more accuracy driven and a lot less glitches to sort out.

Whoops wrong board can someone move this to the correct forum?

What hacks are you referring to? Most of the hacks in GSDX, that you can see at least, are put in to fix problems introduced by upscaling, which is a hack in itself.

If you want us to remove upscaling so we can get rid of all the hacks, we can do, but you won't be popular, nor will we.

All the hacks in the game data base that uses the autogame fixes. If everywhere were emulated accurately we wouldn't need a database of hacks to fix the games.

But you would need a super computer to run the emulator.

There is a ps2autotests, inspired by the PSP equivalent, might be worth putting that though PCSX2 and see how it holds up? https://github.com/unknownbrackets/ps2autotests

PCSX2 passes the auto tests as far as im aware (they do the VU ones anyway), they are very limited in what they check.

Some things are very difficult to debug, if and when we find a solution we will implement it, till then the hacks suffice.

Of course Dr_Hycodan, as you seem to have a sensible plan which makes sense to you, you could always try fixing them yourself, this is an open source project to encourage collaboration after all..

Speaking of GameDB fixes, I've had a quick scroll though and noticed that a number of games have skip fmv hacks as explicit patches, does the generic skip Mpeg hack not work for these games? do they still need the patch?
