Issues with controls changing using xbox360 controller and Lilypad

I mostly play RPGs when I use this emulator so I set up my controller so the left joystick will run, the dpad will walk and the right joystick will pan the camera. Sometimes however, when I load up a saved game (through savestate), my controls are automatically changed and both joysticks and the dpad cause the character to walk. I looked through these forums pretty throroughly and was unable to find anything like this. Has anyone had a problem like this or a possible solution to this issue?

Maybe you saved the game while moving in a certain direction? Not sure -- I've experienced this only once.

I suppose it might be a setting that it's not stored on the savestate, or not loaded properly.
