Jonny Moseley Mad Trix has several inaccuracies, even with software mode
#1
Jonny Moseley Mad Trix is visually perfect except for two issues which persist in software mode but don't happen on real hardware.

The crowd has pink outlines on both hardware renderers and software renderer.  Additionally, the game's debug functionality allows for wireframe view which renders incorrectly on both hardware and software renderers.  Both can be seen in this screenshot:

Additionally, if you use the custom textures feature to replace the crowd texture, an outline of colorful pixels is added.  Something screwy is going on with this texture in particular:

For a comparison, here's a recording of the game I did on a real PS2, crowd can be seen at 1:16 and wireframe view can be seen at 1:46.

I haven't seen very many software mode inaccuracies so I was surprised when this game had two.

Fair warning: I don't own this game so I'm just speculating by what I see on those two screenshots.

It looks like that crowd texture is an alpha masked texture. The color pink was/is a very common color to alpha in old game engines.

Generally, those types of textures aren't meant to be filtered so you could try different texture filtering options, like nearest.

Also, if I'm correct that the pink is the alpha channel, you shouldn't be seeing it. Try different blending modes or other settings that are supposed to affect alpha channels.

And of course, widescreen patches and upscaling can cause issues with 2d elements in some games. That's about all I can think of that may help. I could be completely wrong in my assumptions so I hope this helps. Unsure

Well upscaling wouldn't be an issue because it happens in software mode, which wouldn't have any alpha issues either because it's software mode. It does still happen with every filtering mode by the way. Also it's the only texture in the game with this issue, every other texture with alpha/transparent parts render perfectly.

I wonder what's up with wireframe though.

I see....

Ah well, those where all the ideas I could think to try. Sorry I couldn't be of any real assistance. Sad
