KUON (EUR - USA) - Text ingame appears as solid blocks.

Hello there,
First time posting here, but longtime user of PCSX2.

I had to create a post and ask a question for once because for a reason I am absolutely unable to understand, I simply cannot play Kuon (From Software's Survival Horror) like everyone else.

I've seen dozens of videos of people playing the game, there is a known (and possible to fix) issue with some ghosting, but nobody experienced my trouble so far it seems, so, here we go.

The game plays fine, it starts fine, but, quickly after the beginning, an event happens in game (A statue is falling). An effect appears on screen, and after that...

All the text ingame appears as solid blocks. Impossible to read anything. Impossible to fix for me. No way.

I've tried everything I could think of:
- The same settings people are using on different gameplay videos
- Different PCSX2 versions.
- Retroarch core of PCSX2.
- European version of the game, USA version of the game.
- OpenGL / D3D11 / D3D12.
- Widescreen / Non-Widescreen.
- Various hacks, Half-Screen Fix, Texture Offsets, etc etc.
- A 100% clean and unmodified PCSX2, with all default settings (except Hardware Mode / 1080p resolution)

Nothing works for me, except Software Mode.

Why am I unable to achieve the same result as the one shown in this video and everyone else ?
What the actual fock is wrong with my rig ?

I've tried fixing this issue by myself since 4 months on and off, but I'm out of ideas right now, so please, dear PCSX2 community, help a poor soul who just wants to play a very expensive game everyone forgot about.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Here it is.
European version, played from start, stopped after going in pause menu after the problem occurrence.

The PCSX2 version I used is not the most recent one, but, it's the one I mostly used this year, stable for my needs.
I have tried with latest versions earlier this year - the problem was / is still there.

works fine here (ignore the switch to software in the second picture, it doesn't make a difference), can you post all your settings?

Edit: Can you update your Nvidia drivers? Vulkan was broken around the version you are on.

Thanks for your answer !

Missed a few updates on my GPU drivers, I'll update to the latest ones right now and try once again in the next hours, I'll keep you updated.

About the settings, if you speak about PCSX2, I could give you the ones of the version I'm using currently, but I'm not sure if it will help, as the problem also happened with a fresh portable download of one of the latest builds (only setting I changed was Software > Hardware - 1080p res).

If the driver update doesn't help, I'll post my full specs and settings.

I'd be nice to see it in the latest one, an october 2021 build is very old.

Okay so I just tried with a fresh build of the latest nightly, took some time to properly configure it, after updating the GPU drivers...

And it works.

Amazed.
I guess I was just trying to look way too far to understand the problem, but neglected the very basics. This kind of problem never happened to me before though, that's a first, I would never have guessed drivers would be the reason, especially when all others games worked okay beside this one.

It also works with the Retroarch core, for information (but I'm not sure if you guys are directly involved with its updates ?)

Anyway, thank you a lot for the hint !
That's a lesson I will remember !
