Killzone crashes PCSX2 ...
#1
Everyone:

OK - so, go look at the first post in this thread: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Problem-with-GUN. Then come back to this. What's going on is that I'm getting a message again about PCSX2 crashing (with Killzone, which I bought legally at a local store and made a legal copy of). Or specifically, it says, "PCSX2 (version number) has stopped working." Windows closes PCSX2 without any further explanation, and the emulog.txt file does not offer any additional insight (exactly like how what happened with GUN, as described in the other thread). I did test a few other games of my own, and PCSX2 doesn't crash during these games. The only clue I have here for Killzone is that PCSX2 runs it fine for extended periods of time EXCEPT when I get to the first in-game part, and soon after (within 10 seconds), PCSX2 crashes with the same message I quoted here. For what it's worth, here's the text of what's in the EmuLog.txt file after PCSX2 crashes (with Killzone running):

PCSX2 team:

Killzone is marked as "playable" in the compatibility list. I am running this game in software mode. All default settings. 3 threads for software rendering.

Mark it as "unplayable." I bought this game after checking the compatibility list, and was a bit disappointed to see that it won't work (i.e. is unplayable).

Everyone:

Any thoughts on what to do? What's up with this? My PC specs are:

- i7 2600k CPU (stock)
- 8 GB of RAM
- Windows 8.1 with Update
- Nvidia GeForce 660

Thanks in advance to whoever responds.

It's a known memory leak issue. You can complete the game, but it's tedious work. You can use a 4GB patch to prevent the game from crashing as soon as it uses 2GB of RAM

Hmm? "4 GB patch" ... ? Please expand on that. (Thanks for the quick response, by the way.)

http://ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

this will allow 32bit applications to have access to up to 4GB of RAM vs. the standard 2GB

Seems to have worked! Thanks! Wish the compatibility list included a note about this ...

Maybe you can add this? (in terms of a full compatibility report)

PCSX2 team - see above. (Thanks.)

It doesn't full fix the issue I don't think, but it at least makes it possible to beat a level

Yeah, requiring an external patch utility doesn't warrant the game being marked as playable. Ratings should be given without having to apply patches that are not inherently a part of PCSX2 (cheats excluded) and workarounds to achieve better compatibility should be noted.
This one was poor practice Tongue
