I bet he was loading a state,which in turn was corrupting the display gfx.

Yeah that was most likely the problem, when I started a new game everything was just fine. I'm about halfway through the game and so far no problems at all, a couple textures that have some lines through them n stuff but 100% playable and I'm getting an incredible 100-200% speed. I think the entire time I've played with the frame limiter off I've never dropped below 100%.
