That destroyed my harddrive last time that I installed win7.

It physically damaged it, but HP sent me a new one so I'm good.

well, i'm unable to prove the opposite, of course. but it's much more likely that it would have malfunctioned anyway, even without the installation of win7. the real danger for the health of your hdd is not the operating system, it's software constantly accessing it, like bittorrent clients or the windows/google search indexer. paired with mediocre or worse cooling they can greatly reduce the lifespan of your drives.
