Indeed cooling on thin laptops are a weak point, do you play with all settings on high?? What is your overall fps?
I tend to play with default settings except any needed HW hacks for a game and then the scaling (I don't use shading boost or MSAA or anything else); that being said I don't get any slowdowns and that GPU is better than mine, so you SHOULD have some headroom to play around with; if you mean normal PC games I'm not a gamer but I can max GTA4 (that includes VSYNC and MSAAx16) and Skyrim, those are the most demanding PC titles I've completed on it and all was good.

If you set it 3x (3x PS2 resolution) it means 1440~1536p, isnt this res unnecessary since laptop max res is 1080p?

Correct me if I'm wrong
As was said:

That being said what you suggested works fine with Kingdom Hearts 2, for example, but other games mess up if not scaled by a multiple of the standard resolution and, as my PC can handle it, I don't mind processing those extra pixels if that means more games will run OK without constantly changing settings between games Smile

Hope this helps Smile

I understand, some games may not work well with custom res...

I would try a 2x res with all settings on high, for me on a 15 or 17 inch display 896p to 1080p is not that different

This is true, but at 2x scaling you only get 1280px of width, which is the same as HD resolution and NOT like 900p (which would be 1600px wide); again, not really very noticeable to me but if I can game using the fulll 1920 pixels (or close to that) I'm happier than at HD res Smile
