Low FPS with Shadow of the Colossus?
#1
I love Shadow of the Colossus. One of my favorite games. But I can't seem to get all those beautiful graphics running smoothly. I have speed hacks on and my computer can run up to ssse4.2 but even with that I can only manage up to about 29 FPS during gameplay. On start up with the bird scene, I manage to about 90-110 FPS which confuses me. Any help?

SPECS:
Intel core i5-2450M 2.50ghz non overclocked

Graphics card:
Intel HD Graphics Family

Computer:
Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

I'm running on a laptop btw.

Your specs almost the same like me, so try:

1. Enabling speedhacks including MTVU
2. Tick "Native" in GSdx
3. Change EE/IOP and VU Clamp modes to "None"
4. Set your power plan to "High Performance"

set vu cycle stealing and to 2.
Keep in mind your Laptop won't be enough for this megathrust game.
if you remember well, this game had severe Fps problems even on a PS2
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

Gahh all that did was raise the beginning screen to about 140 FPS but dropped down to 30 FPS during gameplay :/ I'm sure these settings will work with other games. I suppose just not with Shadow of the Colossus. Thanks though!

Yes I do remember. Oh well, I can still enjoy other games. I guess just not this one :/ Breaks my heart. I don't have a ps2 ATM. I really with they would re-release this for ps3!

Make sure your Windows' Power Plan is set to "High Performance".

That processor is fairly fast,
but the Intel HD graphics is gimpy.

Make sure you are using a low internal resolution (e.g. Native),
and also use a little of the VU Cycle Stealing Speedhack.
VU stealing is essential to running this game fast in-game,
and nothing else has the same effect as it (in my experience).

(BTW - menus will usually run much faster than the rest of a PS2 game)

If the game doesn't run faster by all that,
then I'm pretty sure your integrated graphics is what's holding you back.

you need a ps2 to use this emulator legally
