MGS2+3 randomly crash after 1-3 minutes
#11
I tried playing using Direct3D 11 instead of OpenGL, and it works. MGS2 works fine, but MGS3 has serious graphical issues, and can't have the postprocessing. I'm 90% sure the crashing is caused by the cutscenes. Also, the only HW Hack I have enabled is Half-pixel Offset, which I've set to Normal (Vertex). This fixes misaligned depth of field in MGS3's cutscenes.

Can you upload a savestate before the crash? I can try to see if I can reproduce it.

https://mega.nz/fm/9nhA3KRJ Here are the save states. MGS 3 crashes as soon as "A Hideo Kojima game" shows up on the screen. MGS 2 crashes as soon as it enters into Raiden's first-person perspective (with the skull helmet's yellow eyes).

I'm not too sure how MEGA works, so this might not work perfectly. Let me know.

The emulog doesn't even give me any errors anymore. It just abruptly stops.

Edit: Tried it with all the same settings as before, except I set the resolution to "Native". It worked. But it worked before at 1080p, though.

Have you got it to work? If you say it works after switching to native resolution, then the crashes might have been from you running out of VRAM

8GB RAM,
And some other gubbins that make things work.

The link doesn't work for me. You can try a different site like http://www.filedropper.com/

Could be related to this: https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/issues/2117
I'm just throwing things onto the table here.

Also, try using the microVU recompiler along with the Chop/Zero rounding mode (if you aren't already).
If all else fails - do a fresh install of PCSX2?

dunno what reason the crashes.....is your mgs3 has "demo theatre" to select their cut scenes where it crushes and try the OGL-HW renderer.

let's say for example during the final battle with the boss you lapsed 10 minutes and the migs drops the nukes the game crashes on OGL-HW renderer....but did not crushes on D3D11-HW.....swapping those 2 renderers might give it a try but "stay low" on the prefixes-speed hack that can sure break the game.

Quick update: I've tried it with other resolutions. Native, 2x Native, and 3x Native. They all worked flawlessly, and 3x Native is graphically on par with my custom resolution. The only problem is flickering on the borders of the screen, specifically in MGS3. I know ePSXe had an option to black out glitched borders. Is there anything similar here? Other than that, I think I've worked around my issue, though it did work before with a custom resolution. Weird.

It says I have 3006MB VRAM available (for textures). I doubt it would run out that quick. I also tried disabling some settings, which should reduce the load on VRAM, and it still crashed at the same point.

EDIT: http://www.filedropper.com/sstates Here's a filedropper link for CK1.

Changing the resolution also seems to have made the graphical artifacts more tolerable.

Tried it. Using all the same settings as before, except now with my custom res (1920x1080). Seems to be working perfectly fine. There's still the artifacts on the left and upper borders of the screen. They're literally about 3 pixels wide.
