Metal gear solid runs really slow

Hello to all !

As you can see i'm new here and english is not my native language so i'll try not to sound too newbie

ok, so i downloaded PCSX2 with plugins bios and everything, also downloaded Metal gear solid 3 (1 and 2 was AWESOME!)

but everything apart from the start menu runs really slow, unbearably slow even..
the sound is in "slow motion" the game is heavily lagging and it's almost impossible to play..
i think it may be the pc so i'll give you the details of the pc and also of the configuration of the emulator:

PC:
CPU Type - AMD Athlon 64, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3000+
RAM memory - 1500MB RAM DDR \ 1.5GB
Video Card - ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series (512 MB)
Windows XP 32bit

Bios version 02.30 (2008)
i tried messing with the speed-hacks, when they are on it's slightly better about 10fps up.

Can you please tell me what the problem is ?
is it my hardware (CPU) or some configuration issue ?
