Michigan: Report from Hell - Any game fixes available?
#1
Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone else has tried running "Michigan: Report from Hell" on the PCSX2 emulator without it causing any issues while playing.

Here are 2 videos of the game where you can see my framerate dropping drastically every now and then:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSv7ndQ1X4k&t=6m25s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kijbwrm10Q

(just hasted unlisted test videos to check the quality/performance)

I've tried many different setting with the GS Plugin and speedhack options and whatnot. (anyhing that was mentioned here on the forums on the sticky threads)
I went with the native resolution, tried software/hardware dx9/11, completely deactivated any AA/AF, turned everything low, but the game still keeps dropping framerates when facing into certain directions while sometimes just running perfectly fine at 60 FPS.
(recording the videos has no impact on the games performance)

Any other game I play on the PCSX2 works perfectly fine with all graphics settings maxed up.

I just wonder if anyone could give me suggestions on how to improve the games performance to work just as well as any other game.
Or maybe someone could create some custom fixes for it.

My system:

Windows 7 64Bit
4GB Ram
AMD Phenom II 4x (3.0 GHz)
ATI Radeon HD5870

Or could it be because my system is too weak for it?

The reason why I'm asking for this especially for this game is, that I want to record a longplay of that game for my youtube channel, but a video with spiking frames where everything goes noticably slowmotion every now and then isn't that nice to watch.

Thanks in advance for any kind of help you guys can provide.

I just want to ask the same question too.
I've tried many different setting too,but still have the problem you said!
I‘ve search the problem,it seems to be the problem of the game, someone who uses the I7 CPU has the same problem too。
sorry for my broken english, waiting somebody for helping!

What do the ee% and gs% say when you get slodowns ?
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

At 60 FPS EE is at around 45 - 60 % and GS around 15 - 30 %.
When the frames drop (usually down to 45 - 30 fps), EE stays around the same scale and GS spikes up to 50 - 80%.
VU also inceases up to 80 - 99% from 30 - 50%.

VU Cycle stealing stage 2 kind of stabilizes the game for a short period of time but causes it to freeze here and there completely, while also causing the game to stutter a little.

Could be worth trying without mtvu hack, then.

The MTVU hack is actually the only hack that boosts the games performance significantly.
I tried it out though, it didn't change much other than the performance being overall very slow because of the hack being deactivated.

I think it's because the game is not as compatible with the PCSX2 emulator as other games are which causes those frame drops to happen when facing certain directions.
(It's fully playable though, the only issue it has are the frame drops)

That's why I hoped to find someone here who could work on a special gamefix for Michigan.

Here are 2 screenshots of the game with max. resolution and the graphics settings up all high.
The performance is exactly the same as when playing with the lowest possible settings:

your CPu may not be powerful enough if it's one of those very demanding games.
tried software mode + 3 extra rendering threads ?
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

I don't think it's the CPU's problem.
I have oced my CPU [email protected] to 4.6GHz,some scenes still got 30fps.the same as before.

Tried with an intel haswell @4.5 ghz ?
Edit : considering the poor performances scored by your cpu in terms of single threaded applications, yes, your cpu might be the problem...

No,I did't.You mean maybe an intel haswell can solve the problem for this game?
I'm thinking that is there any pnach can improve this game's performance to work just as well as any other game.
sorry for my english.
