Multiple versions post 2.0 of PCSX2 crash when changing settings
#1
Whenever I try and open the settings menu the application crashes, the app becomes nonresponsive and eventually stops responding. I've checked for crash logs and none is generated.

Have tried 1.6.0, 2.1.95, 2.0.2. 1.6.0 worked fine, just lacked some features I want to use that 2.0+ has.
I've tried manually installing and installing via EmuDeck.
I've tried updating my drivers and researching forums, etc. Most people experiencing similar issues seem to be experiencing issues with the ROG Ally, but I'm on a Windows PC.

My specs are:
RTX 3060
i5-7600K
Windows 10
16gb RAM

My friend has run the same versions as me and has had no issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can't research the crash logs further since I'm not seeing any generated when the game crashes.

Thank you! Smile

Install in 2.x into new directory. Make portable.ini in that directory. Make sure your redistributable (search forums) is up to date. Make sure to not install into program files or on any sort of one drive folder.

Some settings from old install are not compatible, no idea which ones they are. You could reset all the settings in the old directory manually or just start from few install.

Hey thank you both for the quick replies. Unfortunately neither of your suggestions work, and the application still behaves the same way.

Find PCSX2 failing in windows Event Viewer. Paste why it's failing. Should be somewhere under "windows logs" header.

Good suggestion. Here is what I found. None of it is particularly enlightening to me, unfortunately.

Download a fresh copy from main site and put it in a folder on your desktop.
Create an empty new portable.ini file in that directory.
Start pcsx2 executable.
You should see fresh install setup
More or less skip all the configs bios/gamefolders to get into main UI.

Does it crash?

If no. Start configuring your things one at a time. See what step triggers the crashing.
