My ATI card is the problem?
#1
Hi guys,

Ok i've spent the WHOLE day of my holiday lurking around everywhere trying to nail down the problem of why pcsx2 is agonizingly slow when playing FFXII, a couple of threads out there mentions that ATI cards are almost obsolete when it comes to playing at a stable 60fps, now I'm currently running a Radeon HD4870 512mb and I really hope thats not the case.
But I would like to know if this is true or not straight from the horses mouth...Capeesh?

I've got the 4870x2 and I'm running alot of game's fine.. Albeit I get stupid issues in such games as Tenchai 3.. Ranging from 60-110%?

Yet some day's it's 80-100%..

FF10 Was fine for me like.

hmmm i'm just thinking if its worth shelling out $60 or so to downgrade to an 8600 if that's gonna put me in a better situation and sell my 4870 since I hardly play proper computer games nowadays.

Also I'm running an Intel core 2 duo E6600 2.4ghz,
will overclocking to around about 3 or 3.2ghz help raise that average fps to 50-60? (right now its on 40-55)

I run FFXII on my F3JP laptop (ATIX1700, C2D 1.66G), with X3 speedhack, 512x512 internal res, no filtering, no alpha correction.
It runs fine, about 40-50fps in scenes with few sprite. And about 30fps with lot of sprites.
But thankfully, there is not much scenes with many sprites. And I'm enjoy it.

Don't have much experiment but I think you should get decent speed with your PC spec.
If you use GSDX, look at the CPU usage on the title bar, if it 's not always 99-100% then your Graphic Card is fine

I am running FFXII with full speed at constant 60fps, DirectX10 hardware plug in with 1900x1200 res. Smooth as silk!!!! My specs: 3.2Ghz Q6600, Radeon 512Mb 4870, 8Gb Ram, Vista 64.

So NO, your video card is fine. Maybe the CPU cause the problem or your just need to mess around with setting.
