I am interested in playing the game Final Fantasy X-2. However on my laptop with Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz and Radeon X1300 I only get 20-30fps, which is totally not playable.
I am going to configure a new desktop and hope I will be able to run at 60fps.
As I'm new to emulators, I have some questions:
a) Is CPU frequency the most important?
b) How important is the graphics card?
I have a configuration list in mind, but I'm not sure if this will run FFX-2 smoothly.
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz overclocked at 4.00GHz
Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9)
XFX ATI Radeon 4890 XTX XXX Edition 1024M

well, the i7 definitely will run it on software mode, and the ati card will run fine with the latest betas
in pcsx2 it is really important, however only if it is a good architectur (core 2 duo, etc). I think it is Dx
and the graphic card is important to run the games at higher resolutions, and with less errors in emulation (Dx10 works way better than Dx9)
My Laptop:
CPU: intel T4200 @ 2.0 ghz
GPU: Intel GMA X4500M
Ram: 3 Gb DDR2

if you can afford the i7 it would be foolish to go for the E8600

Any processor that can go 3.4+ will run just about any ps2 game on PCSX2. If you can afford the i7 definitely go for it.

ORLY?... So a P4 at 3.4GHZ would work as good as a C2D at 3GHZ? No.

if you can buy an i7 buy one.
But to tell you the truth i have an intel core 2 quad q9300 2.5 mhz,2gb ram 1066mhz ddr2 and a nvidia geforce 9600gt with 1gb memory and i can play in pcsx2 every game i want.even the heavier ones like god of war 2.Also mention that i am playing at fullscreen with 1680X1050 resolution and all the time i get 50-60 fps without speedhacks(only in god of war 2 i need to enalbe one or two).
