What should I be looking for to handle this without breaking the bank?

That...seems excessive given that my previous primary PC, running an AMD FX-6180 and a GT620, was able to run PCSX2 with no discernible trouble. Have the requirements really jumped that much in just under two years?

Then I guess I'm never getting PS2 set up on my cabinet because I'm not spending $300 on a CPU.

And not be able to fix it if something goes wrong with the program.

That's the price to pay...
At least, you can still play your games on your real PS2 instead

My real PS2 died out years ago. When I'm playing non-arcade stuff I use PCSX2 on my main PC(Ryzen 5 1600, 16GB RAM, GTX 1050) using a Logitech F710. This is just supposed to be for stuff in my arcade cabinet that MAME can't quite run yet(plus whatever was never on arcade but works on an arcade setup as a bonus).
