Needing some help, over here

Hello, everyone. I recently made a post about my problem on another thread, but was suggested to make my own thread about it, so here I am.

Yesterday, I decided to try PCSX2 out. Got the 0.9.8 (r4600) version, configured GSdx SSE41 with Direct3D11 (Hardware), didn't turn on any speedhacks and tried running one of my demo disks. I'm going to tell today's experiences, however, not yesterday's, since I'm not sure if yesterday I tried with any speedhack on and, as such, there could be different results.

I tried two demos, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Ratchet and Clank 3.
With R&C, I had an unsteady 35-50fps throughout the demo and the textures were all screwed up. The EE averaged 90% and the GS 45%.

With MGS, the framerate was around 20-25fps during most of the first cutscene. However, the bits inside the cockpit and when Snake jumped off fluctuated between 15 and 24fps. When he landed, the framerate jumped a little bit, dropped like mad during the radio call (4 fps) and when I assumed control of Snake, the framerate went back to 30-40 fps. The downside is, I can't see anything, since there are a whole lot of blue vertical lines obstructing the screen. EE ~60%, GS ~40%.

Taking that in account, I decided to try this out. Changed the EE/IOP, VUs and Speedhack settings according to what I was suggested and the same for the gsdx.ini.

With R&C, the framerate got much better, with a steady 50fps; however, there were some errors and the game froze when I tried to climb on a ledge. EE 50-70% and GS 20-34%.

With MGS, the cutscenes were mostly around 50 fps, except inside the cockpit and when Snake jumped off the plane; the framerate averaged 15 fps. When he landed, it had a small spike and fell back down with the radio call, to 15 fps. In the gameplay, it went up to 35 fps. Blue lines still there. EE around 50%, GS around 25-30%.


My machine is a Toshiba Satellite L755-1NM. Its specs are the following:

Chik'Tikka suggested that it might be Nvidia Optimus not recognizing PCSX2, but I'm not the most tech savvy person and, as such, I have absolutely no idea on how to fix that without screwing something up. May I remind you that I'm sort of new to this whole PS2 emulation deal (my only previous experience was trying to run Zone of the Enders 2 on my previous laptop from 2005. Let's just say it had a constant 2 fps and was, thus, completely unplayable).

Any help in raising the FPS and getting rid of those nasty lines would be greatly appreciated!

I was just playing MGS3 (granted this was not the demo. I should try to find it) on my PC, my FPS stayed near 35-40

now I cannot speak for Laptops specifically, but can you post your inis please?

also, make sure your driver is up to date

What? Pretty sure I skipped that part of your guide. I only changed what was above that NEW REV bit, since I did notice the version for it.

1: Well, that's definitely weird. But then again, it contains the settings saved when we configure the EE/IOP, etc, right? So it might just be that what you told us to change for those makes the two similar, no? Not sure, I'm just throwing ideas around.

2: Yeah, I'm already doing a restore point just in case anything goes wrong while installing the driver. Downloading it right now.

update your PCSX2 and use the new SVN as well. it has gotten faster
